How soon should I have my dog groomed, he is only a few months old and doesn't appear to have much fur?
A The sooner a puppy is introduced to the grooming procedure the better. Though your puppy may not have enough fur to be groomed in the correct style, (assuming you have a dog to be styled, ie Schnauzer, Poodle etc) it is a good idea to bring him to the centre as early as after his injections are complete, there are lots of things a puppy has to endure within the grooming session, clippers, scissors, hair dryers etc, all can be very frightening if not introduced to a pup at an early age.

Q How long will it take to groom my dog?
I took him elsewhere, they kept him all day, and he came back very quiet, it took a few days for him to cheer up, I am worried about leaving him now.
A Usually it takes between 2-3 hours to groom most breeds, unless you have a very large breed, expect a little longer. Although for puppies and first time dogs, that may be a little timid/nervous, more time here is also required. The extra time is needed so as not to frighten the dog/pup, grooming can only be achieved when there is a bond between the dog and the groomer, sometimes this takes time, rushing through the process will only scare him, and result in the dog not enjoying his visits.

Q Can I stay with my dog while he has his hair cut?
A Its very hard to explain to an anxious owner, as to why they cannot stay while their treasured pet is groomed. Any dog in order to be groomed, happily and safely, needs to transfer his trust to the groomer 100%, this cannot be achieved when the owner is present, the dog naturally, will want to be with his owner whilst being handled by a stranger. In many cases, even the most timid dogs will happily bond with me, once their owner is out of sight, sometimes to the the owners amazement.!

Q Is there anywhere locally I can go, whilst my dog has his hair cut, I live a long way and don't want to travel back home?
A Yes, 5 minutes away there is the Bourn Valley Garden centre offering a large selection of goody's that are normally associated with garden centres these days, plus a very good Café offering teas, Coffees and hot food. For the shopaholics, 15-25 minutes drive away you will find the local town centres of Woking and Guildford.

Q How often should I have my dogs hair cut?
A This simply depends on the breed, and your own personal choice. As a rule for most breeds you should be looking at roughly every 6-8 weeks. If you have a dog that possesses a high maintenance coat, ie full coated Shih Tzu, Bearded collie, Samoyed etc, you may find every 4 weeks necessary, though if you are correctly and thoroughly combing your dog on a daily basis, 6-8 weeks should be sufficient. All dogs should be combed daily in between visits, enabling perfect, happy, stress free grooming.

Q My dog has a special shampoo from the vet, can I still bring him to be groomed?
A Unless the shampoo is for any kind of dog mange, the answer here is yes, it will be far easier for me to apply the shampoo correctly and easily, leaving it to soak in for the correct amount of time. If your dog does have mange, you should never take him to the the grooming centre, it is a highly infectious decease which spreads quickly, Cancel your grooming appointment and re schedule when his symptoms have cleared.

Q What happens to my dog when you have finished his grooming, will he be put in a cage?
A Yes, its the safest place for any dog whilst not being groomed, either waiting for, or upon completion of his grooming session. The cages are large and completely wired, keeping him happy, being able to see all around, observing and understanding he wont be locked up needlessly for hours on end, a blanket is also provided when he is finished, and most dogs will actually lie down and go to sleep. Water is also offered at several times during his visit, and of corse a treat before he leaves.

Q My dog is in season, should I still have her groomed?
A This depends on the stage of the season, as all dogs are caged separately, there is no worry of male contact.! Please observe your bitches behaviour, if she is feeling low, quiet or lethargic, then cancel the appointment until she has completed her cycle, the grooming room can become hot, the lifting/handling/bathing and general grooming session, can all make her feel much worse, resulting in a very poorly dog. You know your dog, if she's not 100% then wait until she is.

Q Do I need an appointment to have my dog groomed?
A Yes usually I need at least a full weeks notice for any appointment, and in the busy seasons (June-August and late December) as much as 4-6 weeks notice or more. All customers are advised to re book their next appointment before they leave the centre, indeed I have customers who book as many as 5 next appointments, so as not to be disappointed.

Q How much will it cost to groom my dog?
Q All prices vary from breed to breed, and also taking into account, the size of your dog, for a quote visit the centre, or ring on the number provided. I offer a competitive rate, and I believe the grooming service that I provide is of a high standard. To date all my customers have been 100% satisfied. People often ring and say "I heard about you down the local park" and in many cases through friends/Vets. I can honestly say, that I have a glowing and ever growing good grooming reputation.
